1980-1981
1980-81 the season was truly
a rebuilding year in every sense of the word.
New head coach Michael Pladus and his assistants Larry Talotta
and Glen Danner fielded a varsity team consisting of only three seniors
that wrestled regularly. Though
the team itself suffered through a 4-11-1 season, the year was not
without its bright spots. Senior
Wally Frisch, who was named the team's Most valuable Wrestler, grappled
his was to a 15-1 season during which he won the Centennial League
championship and placed forth in the District XI championships.
Fellow senior Mike Hontz was the 1980-81 District XI champion at
119 lbs. And also placed second in the League Tournament.
Sophomore Ed Keichel won the Centennial League championship at
the 105lb, weight class. Freshman
Jason Grantham, in his first year of wrestling, placed forth in leading
the young Tigers to a third place finish in the centennial League
Tournament.
